Abstract
Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen(BCL) has been used for the early c in the Oriental Medicine. So this study was planned to investigate the effects of BCL on central cholinergic system induced by the focal ischemia in Sprague Dawley rat. We induced forcal ischemia for 2 hours and herbal acupuncture at ST36 was daily proceeded for 7 days after induction.
The ischemic injury degenerated density of acethlcholinesterase(AchE)- immunoreactivity and neuronal cell (by cresyl violet stanining method) in the hippocampal CA1, CA3 (fields CA1-3 of Ammon¡¯s horn). The density of AchE in the hippocampal CA1 was significantly increased in BCL-1 group (0.89 mg/kg) compared to negative control group and that of AchE was significantly increased in BCL-2 group (0.089 mg/kg) compared to negative and positive control group. The density of AchE in the hippocampal CA3 was significantly increased in BCL-1, BCL-2 groups compared to negative and positive control group. The density of neuronal cell was significantly increased in BCL-1, BCL-2 groups compared to negative and positive control group and that of neuronal cell was significantly increased in BCL-2 group (0.089 mg/kg) compared to positive control group. Our studies suggest an evidence of BCL herbal acupuncture as treatment for the early stroke.
